Congratulations to Maria Akopyan, co-advised in the Therkildsen and Zamudio labs, for completing her A-exam today! Maria’s thesis focuses on the genomics of local adaptation of the silverside (Menidia) across a steep environmental gradient along the eastern US coast. We look forward to the amazing findings that will come from her work.
As is tradition in EEB, she dented a lab ceiling tile with a champagne cork!
KZ was interviewed for a science podcast by Robyn Williams, a very fun science reporter from the Science Show, ABC News Australia. The conversation was wide-reaching, ranging from habitats, to fungi, to politics of Brazil, and international collaborations. Here is the podcast with a shout out to our wonderful Brazilian collaborators!
Sean McHugh (’18) and Brianna Mims (’19) are off to grad school! Sean will be attending Virginia Tech next semester, and Brianna will be joining the EEB department at University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Congrats to both, and we know you will both do great things!
Every year our Herpetology Class goes to Clyde Peeling’s Reptiland, an AZA accredited zoo that focuses on reptile and amphibian diversity. We get a warm welcome from Mr. Peeling himself, get a behind the scenes tour, and then marvel at the intricate exhibits that are designed and fabricated by Clyde’s sons. A wonderful Zoo! And who would have thunk one could see courting Komodo dragons in Pennsylvania!
